In principle, this build is very similiar to "Darth Vader" created by Alpha the Great (primary difference being 1/2 Warlord instead of 1/2 warlock) As such I will be making direct comparions to it. Link to Vader here: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

Eladrin Hybrid Swordmage / Warlord
"Never. I'll never turn to the Dark Side. You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me"- Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight

Luke Skywalker is a Jedi Knight (Swordmage) and Guardian of the New Republic (Defender). Prior to becoming a Jedi, He frequently led the warriors of the Rebellion into battle (Warlord, Leader) Jedi knightsare renowned for their ability to be almost unbeatable (High Defenses) and inspire their followers to become more powerful themselves (Warlord Powers) They also have a range of uniqiue abilities such as incredible speed (Teleporting) and Mind tricks (Arcane Mutterings)

Key Strengths of the Build:

  • Extremely High Defenses

  • Strong Damage mitigation provided for allies

  • Teleport Optimization

  • Auto-pass social skill challenges (Arcane Mutterings ie Jedi Mind Trick!)

  • Fully Legal and Feasible in LFR games (Replace Mark of Warding with Eladrin Soldier)

  • 3 Minor action Heals per encounter

  • Additional benefits based on variant choice below:

Combat Leader version: This version has a weaker Aegis Of Shielding (DR/Temps) in exchange for Partywide Initiative Boosts and Hail Of Steel.

The High Defenses Element

Typical Monster stats have an attack Value of 5 + (Level). This puts most level 30 monsters at a value of 35.

You have Defense Bonuses Coming From:

  • Shiere Knight (+2 All Defenses UsonT after Teleporting)

  • Cloak Of Translocation (+2 AC and Reflex UeonT after Teleporting)

  • Trick Of Knowledge (+3 All Defenses for encounter)

  • Helm Of Able Defense (+1 Will, +2 Defenses until hit)

Avoids AC attack         (57AC) 95% (22+ roll)

Avoids Fort attack      (55F) 95%  (20+ roll)

Avoids Reflex attack  (57R) 95%  (22+ roll)

Avoids Will Attack      (55W) 95%  (20+ roll)

As a point of comparison, the Vader build sits at 55ac/52f/53r/54w. Be Advised that you will Lose 1 from all defenses in LFR due to losing Mark Of Warding. The Will defense is also 1 point lower in the non-combat Leader Variant.

Saving Throws:
You Roll Saving Throws against Charm with a minimum of +5 (+10 with a good check from Trick Of Knowledge) . A good skill check with Trick Of knoweldge lets you roll at the start of your turn with a +5 against all other status condiditions.

Optimizing Arcana Checks for Trick Of Knoweldge and Arcane Mutterings:
As long as you roll higher than a "2" , you will qualify for your choice of a minimum of two of the benefits. Use the 1/round pre-determined reroll should that critical failure actually occur. Dont even need to bother rolling the dice for the Arcane Mutterings speech skill check.......

If You Somehow "Die":
You have a daily Epic destiny feature that resets your HP to full when you drop.

Applying Your Mark:
(Total) Aegis Of Shielding: Minor action that marks all enemies within burst 3 until the end of the encounter. Normally as a hybrid you can only do this once (unless a marked enemy dies or the mark is superceded) Aegis Of Lost Souls is a free action encounter based utlity that burst marks when an enemy dies. The Fighter multiclass is interesting in that it will apply a generic mark on the attck used with it (hit or miss). You can supercede the aegis mark with the generic one to refresh the usage of the Aegis marking utility.

Protecting Allies:

  • Marked enemies are at -3 to hit allies

  • Weapon Of Arcane Bonds Helps with marking (Save ends Mark on a target hit with arcane attack. 1/enocunter)

  • When you use the (2/round) Aegis of Shieling interupt effect, you can grant an adjacent ally 25/28 Temp Hps

  • You have a 3 minor action encounter Heal powers: Inspiring Word x2 (1 surge), and Rousing Words (2 surges)

  • Twice per round you can reduce damage dealt to an ally (within 10) by 22/25 as an interrupt

  • The temp Hps and Damage reduction can theoretically be placed on the same ally (mitigation of 47/53+ damage)

  • Foe Caller Guantlets: Interrupt (1/encounter) Ranged 10, teleport to swap places with any ally attacked by an enemy you have marked, become target of the attack instead.

Power Choices:
I saw a ton of different routes for Daily power choices so I left them open (plus I wanted this thing to be fnctional without needing dailies) Hail or Steel and A Plan Comes Together are party based mutliattacks against a single target (one is an offturn, free action). Radiant Shield Marks everything hit within ranged 10 burst 5 with your aegis for a round and causes allies in the blast to be insubstantial. Thundering Vortex is a Burst 3 that pulls and marks with your Aegis.  Dimensional Warp is a minor action teleport that swaps palces with any ally, creating a nice setup for the charging ally in A Plan Comes Together.

Teleport Optimization:

  • Paragon Path: +2 All Defenses UsonT: (whenever you teleport)

  • Cloak Of Translocation: +2 AC/Reflex UsonT (whenver you use a teleport power)

  • Eladrin Boots: +2 to distance of all teleports (excluding the boots power)

  • Feywild Flanker: All Allies gain combat advantage againt one adjacent enemy UeonT

  • Spiral dance Assault : At -will teleportation (When you hit with melee attack)

Magic Item Rarirty/LFR rules:
LFR Rules Permit characters to aquire 1 magic item of their choice every level (must be Common or Uncommon) You are denied access to alternative rewards generally and limited to a single rare item per tier (It must be a drop in the adventure) This build can be assemblied completly through these slots by playing normally. The basic build contains no rare or alternative magic items. If you can get access to them, there are a bunch of nice rares that enhance teleporting.

Listed Below are the Found item Slot progression order. Excluding 1 paragon tier tiem, there is no particular order:

I think I have this thing nearly perfect at this point. Would like to confirm that I can transfer Temp Hp to allys before damage is dealt. Not quite sure if you can use a free action as part of an interrupt.
Trick of Knowledge gives +2 all defenses, not +3.

Oh, hey, MoW does a lot of things.
Silly me thought I was already done. Turns out that by swapping from Combat to Battlefront Leader I can take it even farther. I am challenging the CO community to come up with something that has better defenses and am curious as to whether it qualifies as an ultimate defender at this point.

There are builds with better defenses (though basically pointless, once you get them all over the low 60s you are basically done, nothing in the game can crit you and only hits you on a 20). Shaka's Barb|Sorc I think still holds the record, with AC 72 and all NADs 62 or over.

Minor correction: Cloak of Translocation gives you a bonus for using a teleport power, not for teleporting. So long as the power has the teleport keyword. I mention this because there are many instances where you will teleport without using a power, or use a power that has the teleport keyword but not teleport.
Swapped the secondary stat from constitution to strength, putting Hail of Steel back into viability (The MC feat would grant an additonal +1 on the attack with it) . Figured that gaining that was a worthwhile trade for a drop to 90% avoidance in Fort and Will. Cannot decide which variant is better at this point and whether or not the helm of battle is preferable so I put both up. Also looking at resourceful presense instead of tactical but havent gotten that one fleshed out yet.
Have you done the cost-benefit analysis on the whole shield thing?  You are spending what looks like:

1 class feature (Battlefront Leader instead of Combat Leader)
4 feats (Student of the Sword, Stout Shield, Encouraging Shield, Ubiquitous Shield)
1 item slot (Shield of Fellowship)

to gain:

+2 Fort
+2 Will
negate combat advantage
option to grant ally 25 THP on use of aegis interrupt instead of taking it yourself

If you dropped all of this, you could swap back to Con secondary and equip Bracers of Mental Might for Hail of Steel.  You would need to take Intelligent Blademaster.  You would be able to swap Shift the Field for Combat Commander.  And then you would still have 2 feat slots left.  If you (for example, this is probably suboptimal) then spent those 2 slots on Superior Will and Superior Fortitude, the net change would be:

Minuses:
lose battlefront shift / Shift the Field
-1 NADs
lose negate CA
lose THP option

Plusses:
grant allies +8 initiative
+10 HP
+5 surges
+5 to aegis interrupt DR
(I don't think any of your powers have Con riders?  You could swap Greenflame Blade for Booming Blade though.)
resist 8 vs ongoing
saving throw vs daze or will @ start of turn
+1 attack/damage on MBAs and Hail of Steel

I feel like that is a pretty good trade.  You also can trade Hide proficiency for Greater Swordmage Warding for -1 Reflex +1 AC.

Also: I suspect Borrowed Confidence will be much, much better in practice than Aegis of Lost Souls.  The limitation on the hybrid aegis just isn't a big deal in actual play, in my experience.

edit: oh, also, out-of-combat the Bracers of Mental Might more-or-less make up for the loss of +5 Athletics, and then the Con score gives you +5 Endurance.

edit2: I just realized that Borrowed Confidence is a lot less valuable with Keeper's Prescience.  Still, there are plenty of great Warlord utilities you could take.

Thanks for the input AtG (both on this thread and the earlier edition) The combat leader version is burning a 5th feat for proficiency (instead of the class feature) I think that is what you are referring to.

Figuring out the cost-benefit ratio of the shield has been a nightmare. It becoming like a overly complicated game of Jenga where trying to simpify (ie remove) one facet causes a cascade failure in other elements. The first version of the build was running swordmage warding instead of shield proficiencies. It does warrant a re-examiniation since I only looked at it with a 18-12-12-12-10-8 array, a weaker PP and somehow didnt include masterwork armor. At a quick glance I might be able to mantain similar defenses and shave off a few defensive feat slots (right now, 9/16 feats are dedicated to personal defenses which is more than I like)

The problem ive got with removing the shield is that right now it is boosting both sides of the defender catch-22 (I am exceedinly hard to hit so they will be strongly inclined to go after my allies) . Assuming I am able to free up 1-2 feat slots by swapping back to SM warding, Is there something I could fill that gap in with, I might be able to free up the mutliclass as well.

As an example of the Jenga effect: I eliminate the 5 shield feats (All defenses drop by 2 and CA is no longer ignored) I can bounce that back up via the psychic lock combo (net change +3 free feats , - personal damage, +Improved debuff on attacks vs everyone) The problem with this is I need to  regulary be hitting multiple targets. The cascading problem is that my at-will teleport source requires hitting with a melee attack (swordburst does not apply) That means I end up with only 2 reliable encounter based teleports (and a few dailys) for a build that requires a teleport every round.

Is there a way to get at-will teleportation with 2 or less feats (MC feat is available) and a 16-16-12-12-10-8 array?

I think i will take a step back and look at the build with no shield at all, maybee i can find a better alternative. What would I be looking at for expected epic level monster damage?  Would 27 damage reduction cover most of it?

Edit (11/1/2012)
I discovered the Helm of Able Defense. Using it frees up 2 defensive feats (Ubiquitas and Stout Sheld) getting my feat investment down to 7/16. Using those slots for Eladrin Swordmage Advance and Fight On (More healing YAY)
I hadn't realized you weren't running Swordmage Warding; now that I see what you are doing (actually forgoing the Warding and making it work) I think the shield is great.  Especially since you can interrupt twice in Epic so you double the benefit from Shield of Fellowship.

re: at-will teleportation, MC warlock + powerswap for Ethereal Sidestep is the traditional way.
Minor Tweak:

Mark Of Warding was originally placed in a paragon tier slot. I did that because I mistakenly thought that the LFR substitute (Eladrin's Challenge) was a paragon tier feat. I was wrong. Since It was a heroic feat, I was able to replace Eladrin Swordmage Advance with it, and squeeze in Psychic Lock. Damage is low now but being pratically unhittable with a -5 debuff on much/most of the field is a reasonable tradeoff.

The one Concern I have if if I somehow get knocked unconcious after using the Shielding minor action power. Based on my understanding of marking rules, marks disapear if I go unconcious and I only regain usage of the power if a target marked by it dies or has its mark replaced. Solo's who can remove marks on themselves are a problem I dont know how to address.

Edit: Concerned about # teleports /encounter. Replaced Pshyhic Lock with Skill Power in order to make the original Level 2 utility Dimensional Warp. (Giving me 3 + Sprial Dance in Epic excluding items)
Some people in our home campaign wanted to roll new characters, so to accomadate that I'm switching from a pixie killswitch to something like this build.   One character is staying the same, so we're continuing the campaign from level 9, and don't know how far it will go.

We'll continue with a human monk (has some homebrew stuff for a decent MBA), a revenant assassin, a changling bard (likely Lifesinger PP), and me. We may be joined in a few weeks by another player, who will likely make a controller of some type.  It's a mid-op group, where character flavour and skill challenges are pretty important.

We get 28 build points (can go below 8 in a score with a role-playing justification), free Expertise, free improved defenses in Paragon, and standard starting gear (magic 8,9,10, gold of level 9).

In paragon I'll likely go Sigil Carver PP, Githyanki Silver blade + Psychic Lock,  and maybe Sorceror MC and Sorcerous Vision as perception/insight won't be great in the party.  I may be able to get Mark of Warding, but the DM said it'd involve a quest reward or something.  I'm taking Arcane Familiar: Gallant Hawk for some similar effect, switching to Rakshasa Claw when I get Mark of Warding.

Thoughts and advice are appreciated.

Soooo.... you took TWO free expertise feats ?

Whats with the 11 in Strength instead of Dex 12, why would any expertise feat need to apply to lazy warlord powers ?

Direct the Strike being ranged is probably better for you than Commanders Strike.

Is your use of Booming Blade so common that you want to take a feat to get something extra out of it? And does 5 THP really help ? Perhaps Elemental Echo helps you more, +1 to attackseems much better of a feat.

Personally not a fan of Cindersoul, I'd rather see a more aggressive power chosen, but that's up to you.

My bad with the character builder, no versatile expertise (my attempt to mimic a house rule.)

11 Str gets me 13 in epic for Greater Swordmage Warding.  The expertise for warlord powers will be useful with Hail of Steel (via Bracers of Mental Might)

Not sure how much use it'll get, but since most of my encounter powers are non-standard action I expect it'll get some.  The 10 THP trigger doesn't seem that hard to get.  If I'm not using it much I may switch to swordburst.

Thanks for the suggestions on Elemental Echo and Cindersoul.  Right now Cindersoul fits his backstory ... born a firesoul, named Cinder, because a Cindersoul after trauma, and is working that out.  I expect it'll change as he grows up.
