The Archetypal Dragon Master

A man or woman marked by the Dragon in some fashion about the eyes, hands or head and with an aura that rages even in the face of peace. Covered in ornate dragon styled armor cloak and/or scanty clothing worn more as a badge than for real function.  Carrying large fancy weapons and an herb pouch. Justiciars wandering the world imposing their own ethics and the laws of their country on all, by fear and the violence of sorcerous fire and large swords. They are seemingly impossible to kill and are met with fear and suspicion even by those whom they would aid. Berzerk in battle and Icy calm in real life, their skin is marginally hot to the touch, due to a supernaturally accellerated metabolism (which also requires the consumption of abnormal quantities of food.)

Dragon Masters

Dragon Masters are the lead archetypes in a story which has been evolving since I was in high school. Beginning as people who rode dragons and who themselves were like dragons and has grown evolving into a story which is largely about the escape from madness and power over darkness and aggression.

Dragon Masters are the unwitting channellers of two basically opposing powers. The primal beast they call the Vengeance Dragon (Nemahg) and the healing energies some call the Unicorn Force. The Nemahg is foremost of these two... its power internalizes (Dragon Masters are unable to perceive or direct the energies of their own healing power ) and sometimes distorts the manifestation of the Unicorn Force in the Dragon Masters (regeneration of lost parts is frequently weird at least in a cosmetic sense and may be a reflection of the Dragon Lords own distorted sense of personal identity). It is said that without the presence of the Unicorn Force's golden healing energies the Dragon Lords would indeed be shredded by the power channelled into them by the Vengeance Dragon, if nothing else their will would eventually be exhausted and subverted completely by vengeance.

Dragon Mastery is a twofold path.

  • Dragon Masters learn power over the self to gain power over the beast : how to regulate the summoning of the might of the Nemahg.

  • They learn power over the Dragon, to shape it in forms of their desire and to control the manner of its manifestation when their spirits have been flooded with its fires.

Breaking the mold...

The above is somewhat obviously a stereotype, but it is perhaps important to understand stereotypes to understand the individuals.. Many Dragonmasters spend considerable effort trying to fit in, this just doesnt fit with the ultimate confidence ascribed to them.

There are atleast two Nemahglakan, Aurelian counciliars that of the justiciars obviously, known as white eyes and the lady of dance. She refused to take up any weapon but uses the dragons might to perform extraordinary acrobatics and extraordinary stage effects, associated with her arts. She has only once been known to wear dragon regalia... and this was as a political statement, and has yet to visit any foreign nation aside from Cathosia.
