Ealves of Eya (The new children)

The Ealven people were constructs of fanatics looking to manufacture a super race of humans.  One of the side effects of this is their high genetic uniformity ( Ealves often praise the wonderful variance of other peoples).  The Ealves are said to be inhabited by the spirits/souls of the Alfar, an extra-dimensional people from the depths of pre-history, whose plane (faerie) had once been adjacent to Eya.  A people who had come to love this world so much that  their souls sought it after life?  The existence of Ealven souls was confirmed by the Healers of Aurelia, back in the era of the healer missionaries, and the god-wizard wars. This was accepted by fewer than admitted it. Aurelians were known as flaming liberals after all.  Ealves kept mostly unto themselves huddling in self defense.  The newly created people rejected the elitist ideals of its creators and actively betrayed them en mass, going over to the opposition a powerful egalitarian state. Their creators revenge was as bitter as it was protracted, this is the origin of Trolls.

Ealven Genetics

Ealven genetics may have been tampered with in the design process itself, the notable pointed ear and eye while a part of the human gene pool was not a part of the planned super human gene set and may have been introduced by the afore  mentioned Alfarian souls or surreptitiously by one of the younger gene wizards (who perhaps also contributed to the motivation of the young species). They were intended as a race of ideal humans not something out of fantasy.

Further analysis of Ealven genetics reveal the strong exploitation of neotony in Ealven design.

Concerning Ealven supposed superiority.  Ealves do generally average notably superior in many areas of common measurement including basic IQ, strength, health and general dexterity combined with there extraordinary life spans make them extraordinary though not as much so as one might expect.  Ealves do not generally display either the extremes of genius or enfeeblement or the bursts of insight relatively common to the rest of humanity.  Further Ealves where something of a social failure marginally accepted but outsiders and feared by many. Their poor fertility proved to those who wished to believe it they were not fit to reproduce <bizarre self serving thinking?> As an illegal experiment in human genetic engineering they were a limited raging success.  Monotheists in particular rejected them as being soulless abominations.

Ealven Religion:

The Ealves considered themselves the new children (of god) or the new people.  And many adopted a naturalistic religion that was popular during this time of their youth and have maintained it true to form 'til this day (in recent times it has become the favored faith of younger elves who are even more a part of this world than their ancestors).  Many Ealves, in a reactionary fashion rejected theistic doctrines altogether, but not all. Agnostic, paganistic,  atheist and monotheistic Ealves remain.  Religion is considered a very private thing amongst the majority of Ealfkind this is probably the only consistent religious belief.

More history and culture:

Modern Ealves are ruled by an elder council, headed by a liege (primarily a figurehead). The elders actually include some first generation Ealves who tell tales from the time of the God-wizard wars.  The Invisible Aisle is plagued by Trolls, seemingly mindless creatures created like a magical plague to haunt the Ealves by their own creators.  They appear as gaunt gigantic truly soulless bestial twisted mockeries of the Ealves themselves.  The Ealven armoury includes many of the tools used in the world shattering wars of the past, some of these are considered more dangerous than their value, and locked away, well warded.  Others are used on a daily basis by dedicated Troll fighters against the prolific Trolls.  Trolls do not have lairs nor lives apparently spawning in strange spontaneous fashions.  The invisible Aisle is one of the few places left in the world that still had true healers in the Era of the Dragon Mastery.

Ealves of Eya have been around a good long time and remember magics from the time of the Man-God-Wizard Wars though they were but children then.  They do not culturally maintain as much of Eya's high techno-magic as they could have pretty much a choice on their part.  They as a race hold many of the keys in terms of books and scattered individual knowledge to bring the world up from it's present barbarism to the levels of might we once enjoyed,  if humanity would accept it and if they could be convinced to take the role.

Ealves lack the advantages of reincarnational memory and even now many evince a persistent naiveté and flightiness which results in poor specialization in skills. Egalitarian idealism is also common.  Older Ealves are more practical and skeptical   Lack of contact with the outside world for nearly two thousand years has left the Ealven people severely lacking in information regarding the rest of the world, its fate and state.  Humans are know to have been highly variable in abilities ranging from awe inspiring to pitiable.  They have been known to learn in 30 short years things Ealves take hundreds to master.  Humans further are capable of feats of heroism and extremity which greatly impressed first generation elders.  The villainy and perpetual violence of humanity frighten them as well.  Idealism nearly intact, a sizeable majority of the new children isolated themselves creating the Invisible Aisle perhaps intending to lead the Trolls away from humanity or to be safe from humanity. You could ask and elder who might answer dryly "both".
