Plus Lore to Transition between 3.5 and 4e D&D
The Flavor of Scrolls bind rituals in to a hermetic bookish wizard ... where as in D&D 4e anyone can learn to do ritual magics. Their are however many ritual casters who would seem odd if tied to books..
A few examples.
Eladrin memory crystals these are a common vessal to store information in for a long hall.. and you can use a shard like a scroll
The ghost skull this is painted with binding magics which gives him access to the memories of earlier mages and which he can tap in to much like a spell book. (it may be impossible to add to the spell book but you can discover new magics inside the ghost mind)
Mind Impressing - certain lunatics are said to still risk sanity with mind impressing this is said to cause memory loss which goes beyond loosing the ritual and which may reduce experience gained - but look at the bright side it is even faster than reading a scroll as much as 5 x times faster.
