Inside the Insider: Dungeon and uh…Dragon.

If you're enjoying the content here, check out our new site, Thoughtcrime Games. Thanks for visiting!

I don’t know who is surprised that I signed up for D&D Insider, but I did.  I signed up for the month by month plan, because I want to be able to opt-out when I’d like.  At this rate though…I’m thinking about going all in.

A lot has been said about WotC’s vaporware.  I do agree that they sholud have been sharper about the development of the tools, but at this point, all I can say is…meh.  What I’m prepared to pay $7.95 a month for are Dragon and Dungeon.  I’m impressed with the content thus far and those alone are worth the content.  I get two magazines that I would buy anyway for cheaper, and they’ve been placing some great content in the pages.  I don’t do many published adventures, so Dungeon is mostly for inspiration, but Dragon in particular is chock-full of cool stuff.

I obviously can’t post juicy details here, but here are my top three articles:

Gladiator Campaigns –more material for this than I thought they would but.  Everything from new powers to new weapon feats and detailed descriptions for how to set up characters for one on one fights (useful reading by itself for other applications), this is my favorite piece in dragon to date.

Star Pact Warlock background — I printed this out for my wife, our resident noob gamer.  She got into the background and loved some of the new feats.

Ecology of the Gnoll, Minotaur, Dragonborn — It’s clear that one goal with Dragon is to expand on the info that there wasn’t room to fit into the main sourcebooks.  Gnolls get some great treatment, but I have to give my nod to Minotaurs as the ecology race with the most interesting treatment.  Children of the corrupted demon Baphomet who struggle to work their way out of the maze of their own souls.

I’d be interested in hearing what other subscribers think about this as well.
