The World of Eya

Eya was once a world like unto our own, perhaps more magickal, perhaps more technological.

Humanity had become like unto gods and took to experimenting, remaking the world in the fashion of their fantasies.

Ecologists/Naturalists supported the engineering of new species (or re-engineering) to replace the many made extinct by mankind's encroachment and folly. But the Time of The Re-Creation went far beyond this.

Whole eco-systems were repaired, created and destroyed sometimes merely for pure enjoyment or to act as hideaways to allow private research, or just as an experiment.

Many new species were conjured from the double helix not as an offering to wounded mother nature but simply to serve as pets, slaves and war machines. It should be noted that many folk particularly animal rights activists (protesting cruelty to animals) and various religious sects (protesting the interference in gods plan) made quite a noise over our dabbling with nature, but progress has a momentum that will not be denied.

Of course many mistakes and monstrosities were created as well as the more or less intentional and perhaps beautiful. Most of the createds didn't survive their own genesis, for if homo sapiens had become gods they were only young ones playing with the tools of an absent parent. This is the origin of Dragons, Giants, Unicorns and Faeries... as well as dark things unnamed (After all what is fantasy without a bit of horror).

Conjecture as to why so many were magickal? Perhaps to make them better able to compete than the creatures they replaced, after all we were ripe with magick ourselves or more cynically to make them better weapons in the never ending wars which we inflicted on ourselves (our own greatest horror).

Some of these creations (most notably the Unicorns, and Ealves and possibly Giants), were inhabited by mythic truths and became conduits for powers and beings from deep in the age of innocence. Frequently these constructs and conjurations went far beyond the expectations or took whole different twists than what their designers intended, and were frequently the least controllable.

Aurelia represents a hold over from this ancient age.. her beleaguered justiciars are a warped invocation of its glory.
