Aurelias Gifts

Aurelia is as close to maintaining the gifts of the Auld World (Wizardry) as any save perhaps the Ealves of the Invisible Aisle,  They weild the craft in all walks of life, conveniences analogous to any you would find in 20th century earth are available in myriad forms throughout Aurelia, however their near pacifism... means marked lack of Auld world war magicks and technologies (Dragon Masters have created new magicks which certainly could be applied in that direction and which they apply in there duties as Justiciars).  Further the magical healing talent which was their national pride was lost in the War of the Dragons, as a side effect of the "Blood Bond" which culminated that mystical conflict.  Much of the knowledge of the healing arts, is there in Aurelia's Libraries unused with none to employ its greater extents, for example artificial limbs are animated creations of auld world techno magick... rather than restored flesh and blood (as would be preferred).

Following the Dragon War, while Aurelia licked its wounds in a self imposed isolation, the world was rocked by a religious and terror motivated "Purge" .

The Purge

This witch hunt of world wide proportions, featured the burning of the great universities, and managed to destroy many wizards (mages and scientists, both great and lesser). Those who had devoted themselves as wielders/and developers of the physical and mystical forces became targets of blame, seen as the source of the worlds woes and the ruiners of nature they were actively hunted as criminal.  Purge survivors learned the usefulness of social invisibility = they hid, took up other trades changed their names but few have forgotten.  This purge was a descent into ignorance, of unparallelled extremity.

The Purge as a mundane event ( if it can be understood in those terms?) occurred contiguous with the mystical dissolution of Justice which caused an outpouring of the might of the Nemahg (Vengeance Dragon as it is known by Aurelia's Justiciars). This exhausted the mystical entity.  Its next known manifestation was the plague of madness which haunted Aurelias children. The blood bond held the Nemahg in spite of the dispersion of the elements that composed its keeper.  And it sought its focus.

Religion and Wizardry

Most religions cling to the ancient terrors which inspired the purge, it has become traditional. Others can sight very convincing and rational reasons, variously claiming magick corrupts, or is too dangerous, or must be reserved for a select and controllable few (pointed out as further evidence of the corruption caused by magick many of these are themselves corrupt)

Aurelia's isolation lasted several decades but was ended by the Quest for Mastery.

Quest for Mastery the beginning of the Aurelian Empire?

The great wars, had freed many dangerous tools of war some could not and others should not be destroyed out right the greatest and most terrible of them all were the earthly dragons. Despairing of ever taming the beast within (vengeance madness) the sensitives of Aurelia raised by Justiciars and now become Justiciars, turned to mastering the beast without.  The importance of this event is generally de-emphasized in Aurelian historical treatise perhaps due to the apparent ease/quickness of its accomplishment.
(I will speculate at length upon on the methods of mastery later. Though it is poorly documented, It is less so than the Dragon Wars were.)

It was this "Gathering of the Dragons" which so greatly impressed /frightened the various city states of the Northern PeluSar Continent such that the majority swore fealty to Aurelia and most importantly her "Dragon Men/Women". Aurelia surprised at the turn of events never the less issued edicts, guidelines for both religious and political behavior.  In the city states, these edicts are erratically enforced by Aurelia's Justiciars, city states who are found to exhibit extreme transgression of Aurelia's multinational laws will be assigned a Governor (Most governors are Justiciars/Dragon Men)  These multinational laws are primarily humanitarian in nature, and were in fact a rewriting of historical international laws couched in the terminology and language of the present more barbarous times.

Now that the Dragon Masters ,make active (though not truly voluntary) use of its power, the Nemahg seems dormant for other purposes.  The world is now tentatively struggling to recover what it hysterically cast aside. Generations forget the terrors of their ancestors and pick up the remnants of ancient tools, and wonder.
