Ten Mystical Staves

Useful for all those things your characters might touch with a ten-foot pole…

1. Infinity: Fashioned ingeniously from sapphire and quartz, this dazzling seven-foot tall rod appears to be made of sparkling blue ice. When it strikes a killing blow, the victim is frozen in the agonizing moment when he realizes that his death is upon him. This spell can be broken again by a final touch from Infinity and, after a few final words, the enemy will be allowed his rest.

2. Persecutor’s Stang: Also called “The Gillmaker,” this forked staff is of the kind used in the bloody Inquisition of the last century. The fork at the top of the stang is inset with a triple row of razor blades. Useful for pinning an enemy’s neck against the wall.

3. Unsanctified Cross: A crooked-looking pole studded with rusty nails. Designed for ceremonies celebrating the dark gods, but can also be effective in melee combat. Wielding this weapon can attract the attention of any demonic energies that happen to be nearby.

4. Totemic Staff of Healing: Carved with the twisted visages of sacred animals, this sturdy yew staff offers extra protection to healers who have been drawn into warfare. If chipped or broken in combat, it is said that one of the nine animals carved into the staff (a fish, a raven, an ox, a snake, a monkey, a fox, a bear, a whale, and an owl)  will join the battle.

5. Bitter Stick: Stolen from a cemetery watchman, this long black staff looks too fragile to actually fight with. Anyone who touches it besides the rightful owner will be afflicted with a fast-acting disease resembling gangrene.

6. Traveler’s Staff: This battered, knotty-looking tree branch is festooned with lucky mementos from the four corners of the earth. Useful for hazarding swift rivers, difficult mountain passes, and the like.

7. Forked Lightning: This softly gleaming white stang buzzes with electricity. An enemy who is hit with this short weapon will receive a deadly shock that will also be passed to anyone who happens to be touching him. Particularly effective in pools of standing water.

8. Cannibal Pole: Decorated with dried human skin and topped with a shrunken head, this weapon still smells like the nasty swamp it was found in. Any magical powers it might have are still unknown.

9. Spar of Glongais: One of the iron bars from the cell of Rike de Glongais, the notorious barbarian thief. One moonless midnight, Glongais ripped this bar from the dungeon wall and used it to single-handedly kill his captors. Both ends have been sharpened to fine points. This weapon grants massive strength to the otherwise small and sneaky creatures of the world, but using it can be exhausting.

10. Stalk of Decay: This dried cornstalk from the fields of the undead baron Miles Chevreau is over nine feet tall. Though this weapon is surprisingly durable and flexible, its poisonous leaves have become brittle with time. Bits of purple leaf tend to break off in battle. If they touch an enemy’s eyes or mouth (or any open sore) there is a chance that the enemy will turn undead.
