4etopia regular kaeosdad just posted something very epic and cool. Something that I would love to see come to light. What is it? Strongholds and retinues in 4th edition of course.
A 4e expansion – No Heroes: Stronghold Building, Hirelings, Henchmen & Followers
Tiers of Reputation
1st Tier – The player character has no permanent base of operation but instead must find hirelings that are looking for work or offering their expert services and then set up meeting places at inns or taverns. It is possible to use an inn as a poor man’s base of operation but it is costly to do so and does not offer any benefits. At this tier you can usually only get hirelings to join your group since attracting henchmen and followers requires a reputation and the costs to maintain such npcs allegiance requirements are often too high without a good base of operation.
The rest can be found, of course, in the forums. I like this because it’s a very interesting mode of play that I think 4e could do quite well.

A quick update on the Skillforge…I haven’t gotten too many takers on getting your feed syndicated, which is a shame! I know there are a lot of great skill challenges out there, and you should be sharing them with the world!
So, please ping me if you want to share your skill challenges with the 4e community.
Work on the database is progressing at a moderate clip. I’m hoping to have a beta up in a few weeks. I’ll announce this on the forums and twitter when it’s ready, so it would be a good time to follow gamefiend on twitter or sign up for the forum!
A Lab for 4e
A funny thing happened in the creation of 4eTopia. What I’ve gotten are a lot of dedicated and wildly creative gamers who are starting to turn the forums into a lab for cool stuff! Whenever we make something, it comes out only partly as we intended. What we create eventually takes a life of its own. I can say that I’m certainly pleased at this moment with what 4eTopia is becoming. It’s a friendly place to discuss and showcase your ideas and your thoughts on the game. I keep encouraging everyone to sign up and post, and I will continue to so because there are great people and great ideas taking place on this board that I’m not seeing anywhere else.
You want to talk about how much you hate 4e? Plenty of places for that. Got rules questions? Again, plenty of places. You want to discuss At-Will’s rules for Spirit, see a great 4e rendition of Slivers, tweaks to Death Saves, or flesh out your campaign world? You want to come to 4eTopia.
That’s what we’re building. We’re small, but we’re really cool.
